Mamma Mia, here we go again

Here are some more photos from out Greece trip, which went on in Skiathos Island, one of the places on earth me and my mom have been wanting to go for ages, mainly because of the movie Mamma Mia, which has been filmed there. Many people would say that’s very lame, I know 😀 Nevertheless, we love this movie and seriously there are so many reasons to love it (I guess if you are a woman haha), the beautiful locations, the great ABBA songs that never get old, the wonderful play of  Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried and most of all the beautifully pictured bond between a mother and a daughter. In fact, most parts of the movie have been filmed on the neigbouring island Skopelos, so of course, we didn’t miss to visit both 🙂 Both islands are really authentic and even though they have for sure changed after filming the movie there in 2008, read, a lot more tourists, but they have still managed to preserve their authentic feel and beauty. Skiathos is super lively and the main town is full of tiny streets, where you can get wonderfully lost among white-blue painted houses and tiny little restaurants. The island is not very big but offers some really beautiful sand beaches such as Koukounaries. Some of them, which are located on the northern shore, are not accessible by ground transport, so you can only go there by boat, they are really worth visiting though. The town is also famous for its night life and offers some pretty cool bars on the seaside, for whom it may interest 🙂 One if the boat cruises took us to the close islands Skopelos and Alonisos, where we spent a great day exploring Skopelos town and some beautiful beaches. One of my favourite places though will stay the old port of Skiathos, which had something really magical about it and looked pretty like a movie location (despite actually being one 😀 – that is the place where Pierce Brosnan’s yacht leaves from to go to the wedding). Enough said haha. Well one more thing. I don’t know if it’s an age thing, but you just really start appreciating those moments spent with family so much more with time 🙂 It was really a blast spending that time with them <3

Greece as you don’t know it

Imagine the little houses painted in white and blue, little shops full of traditional pastry and souvenirs, crowds of tourists walking down the steep stone streets. Greece – that’s the image we all have in our heads when we think about it. Well this summer, together  with my family we went on a bit different but just as exciting adventure to the little village of Karitsa near the Olympus mountain, where peaks meet the Agean sea and it seems as if the time has stopped. When we were laying near the infinity pool of our hotel, sometimes you could hear no sound at all, even during the day, other than the noise of a man cutting grass somewhere in the fields. That was the region of Karitsa – it indeed seems that time has stopped. In the village itself we hardly met a person understanding a word of english, and the only restaurant on the main square did not have a menu, neither prices of the meals. It was such a real and authentic experience and of course I did my favourite thing to get to know the place I’m in – went running, which was even more fun – greeting the few people I met on the road and seeing the old ladies and gents, coming out in the late afternoon hours with a coffee in their hand, speaking loudly in this language I don’t understand 🙂

I have to say that the place we stayed at – Dohos hotel, was absolutely lovely, and  I have rarely stayed at a place where there is not a single thing to criticise. The decor of the rooms was beautiful and full of details, every single one of them overlooking the infinity pool and Agean sea. They have their own garden where they pick herbs and veggies for the delicious food, and make their own marmalades, including one from vanilla fruit, which they serve at breakfast. On Sunday evening there was a delicious barbeque for all guests with awesome music, which made it a night we won’t forget. 🙂 What stayed in my mind most, though, was everyone’s genuine friendliness – people were just super nice and made sure we felt great at all times. As they say, people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel 🙂

Red lip

Last week in Varna my brother brought us to this lovely little beach in St. Constantine and Helena for a family dinner date at the Bay. It’s an arabic restaurant with great food right above the beach with two floors, a restaurant in the second floor and a bar in the first, where you can enjoy some drinks and snacks on a day at the beach as well.  While we were waiting for our parents to arrive we went for a little walk. As a person who never leaves the house without at least a mascara on my eyelashes, I was quiet terrified at first to figure out that I had forgotten my make-up at home.  Luckily, I found this red lipstick in my purse, which turned out to be enough to elevate the look (or at least, my mood 🙂 or was it the proximity to the sea??) But truth to be told, I really think red lipstick is flattering to pretty much anyone so girls, if you happen to be in a make-up-less situation and want an instant polish, just grab a red lipstick and seize the night 🙂
