d Golden Hour is a space that celebrates sustainable and ethical fashion and is here to prove that style doesn't need to come with the price of creating unhappiness and suffering.

How we came about

Hello and welcome to d Golden Hour! I am Dessie and I started the blog in 2015 as an outlet of my creative side, my passion for fashion and a place to share the small beauties of life during my international business studies in Vienna. Today, I still love fashion as an art and a way of self-expression, but the things in the industry that bother me are so many, from the working conditions of fast-fashion brands to the impact the industry has on our environment, that I naturally headed into a new and exciting direction with d Golden Hour. It is now a home of my journey towards a more sustainable, mindful lifestyle. In February 2018 I also finished my master thesis on sustainable and ethical fashion, which has allowed me to dive into the topic even more deeply and get inspired by interviewing a number of sustainable and ethical fashion founders. If this blog inspires even one person to be a little more mindful with the way they consume and even generally go about their lives, I consider this a success. I am happy that fashion is changing, and there is a growing number of sustainable fashion brands out there, producing beautiful clothing that is made to last and has as little as possible impact on the environment, while providing sustainable wages to makers and artisans.

“D Sustainability Issue” Podcast launched in 2020 as a way to connect my two passions - sustainable fashion and mindfulness. Through research and talking to fashion industry insiders, I uncover fashion’s worst and best practices, while taking a mindful approach, with the goal to make sustainable fashion the new normal.

In our shop you can find our sustainable organic cotton t-shirt line that I co-manage together with my mom.

The name d Golden Hour comes from my favourite time of the day - this magical moment right before sunset or right after sunrise that photographers call the golden hour, when the sun is very low above the horizon, the light is soft, romantic and always makes me smile and feel grateful for this life we are given (and I believe everyone does).

I hope you enjoy your time on d Golden Hour and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Dessie
